New Chevy Equinox EV

The Chevrolet Equinox EV Joins the Chevrolet Lineup

When it comes to EV models, some can be rather expensive, making them not a worthy option for some customers. However, with the introduction of the new Equinox EV, Chevy is looking to change that. With a starting price of less than $45,000, the Equinox EV blends a futuristic exterior style with more traditional crossover elements. The result is an SUV that's truly one of a kind. You're sure to be impressed by what this EV offers, so read on to learn more.

Performance

To power every Equinox EV, Chevy has installed a front-wheel-drive single-electric motor that outputs 210 horsepower. All-wheel drive is also available, and when equipped, the Equinox EV outputs 290 horsepower.

All Equinox EVs utilize the same size battery pack. Though, the model's range depends on trim level and powertrain configuration. According to the EPA, front-wheel-drive models will offer up to 319 miles of range. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive setups are estimated to travel about 285 miles.

As for its charging ability, Chevy says with a DC fast charger, drivers can get 70 miles in about 10 minutes.

Design

Due to its name, the Equinox EV has a similar design to the gas-powered model. The difference is the exterior of the Equinox EV has no grille and is longer. As for the interior, shoppers will find a digital dashboard similar to the Silverado EV with a large optional 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center.

The rest of the amenities are dependent on trim. Base models are fairly standard and lack even power-adjustable front seats. But by upgrading to the 2LT, 3LT, and RS trims, you'll receive a host of upgraded amenities such as heated & power seats, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and more.

While the majority of the cabin is as roomy as the gasoline-powered model, the cargo area is a bit small by comparison. However, by folding the rear seats down, the cargo area expands to 57 cubic feet.

Technology

In every Equinox EV, there's a large center dash housing two screens. One is an 11.0-inch digital gauge, and the other is a standard 11-inch touchscreen. Only the 1LT features the 11-inch touchscreen, whereas higher trims like the 3LT and 3RS models offer an optional 17.0-inch monitor. Regardless of the screen size, drivers still find wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. However, more upscale trims receive in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.

Safety

Throughout every model, drivers will find a host of safety features. These include automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist. All models also get GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
