GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Which Truck is Right for You in Ellsworth, WI?

Are you in the market for a new light-duty truck near St. Paul, MN? When you visit Quinn Motors, you will find some contenders, including the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. Both of these trucks are capable, rugged, and highly customizable. In fact, they are similar enough that it's worth taking a close look at both models to decide which one is right for your lifestyle.

Performance

There is a reason the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 are so similar: these trucks share the same platform, which means they also share engines, transmissions, and general capabilities. Differences emerge farther down the feature set. As for what goes on under the hood, both the Silverado and Sierra offer the same four engines for Baldwin, WI, drivers to consider:

  • Standard TurboMax™ 2.7-liter I4 (310 horsepower & 430 pound-feet of torque)
  • Available 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower & 383 pound-feet of torque)
  • Available 6.2-liter V8 (420 horsepower & 460 pound-feet of torque)
  • Available Duramax® 3.0-liter Turbo Diesel I6 (305 horsepower & 495 pound-feet of torque)

Both models pair the I4 engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all other engines with a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is available. Unsurprisingly, the Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 both share a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds.

Exterior & Interior

While the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 share the same platform, they begin to differ when it comes to exterior and interior design and customizability. For example, the top two GMC Sierra 1500 trims (Denali and Denali Ultimate) feature unique exterior and interior design elements, like Onyx Black and Downpour Metallic paint colors, and special interior wood trim and Forge perforated leather upholstery.

Meanwhile, the Silverado 1500 gets its own unique design features down the trim lineup as well. The High Country trim gets a huge chrome grill with a silver Chevrolet emblem in the center, plus special 20-inch wheels and its own interior open-pore interior trim. Additionally, the Silverado 1500 offers the available ZR2 Bison Edition package. This off-roading package adds unique 18-inch black wheels, upgraded skid plates, rocker panels, and steel front and rear bumpers. When you make the trip from River Falls, WI, to Quinn Motors, you can compare the designs of our Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models in person.

Technology & Safety

There are plenty of technology features found on both the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500. Both trucks come standard with a seven-inch touchscreen and offer an available 13.4-inch touchscreen as an upgrade. Both trucks also offer a seven-speaker Bose® premium sound system. However, the Sierra 1500 features a 12-speaker Bose® sound system on the Denali Ultimate trim. This sound system is not available for the Silverado 1500.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 also boast similar safety features. Both Chevy Safety Assist and GMC Safety Pro (standard on their respective trucks) include these features:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (applies the brakes to prevent collisions or minimize their impact)
  • Forward Collision Alert (Alerts you if the system detects an impending impact so you can apply the brakes)
  • Front Pedestrian Braking (Automatically applies the brakes if the system detects a person in the vehicle's path)
  • IntelliBeam® (automatically turns the high beams on when they are needed and dims them when the system detects approaching vehicles)
  • Following Distance Indicator (Displays your distance behind a vehicle in front of you)
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning (Alerts you if the truck begins to change lanes without a signal and applies steering correction if needed)
