The Buick Encore GX is a subcompact crossover SUV that prioritizes a humble, minimalistic experience. The entry-level Preferred trim is equipped with a 1.2L turbocharged Ecotec engine that delivers 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive system are both standard, but all-wheel drive with a drive mode selector is also available for purchase.

A 1.3L Ecotec engine, optional on the Preferred trim and standard on the Sport Touring and Avenir trims, improves horsepower to 155 and torque to 174 pound-feet for an overall more responsive and zippy performance.  When properly equipped, the Buick Encore GX has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 pounds.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy of the 1.2L engine is approximately 30 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The 1.3L engine has the same fuel economy on the highway, but in the city it drops slightly to 29 MPG.
